Folk of the farthest west know of the ports of the mighty Atlantic Ocean but may be less familiar with the ports of call along the Eastern, inland trade routes. Misrian was the major town in the verdant realm of Dekhistan, providing welcome succor to caravans coming west out of the high deserts bearing goods from China.
I, Yildiz, continued west with one of those caravans, ahead of the approaching Mongol forces.
I, Yildiz, have heard that Misrian and Dekhistan were sacked by the Mongols, but not totally wrecked and leveled, unlike the larger oasis of Merv farther east. Perhaps our rulers were more prudent and did not enrage the great Khan by murdering his envoys.
[Dekhistan was abandoned after the 15th century due to desertification: Cutting down all of the junipers on the distant hillsides had wrecked the aquifer and water table that previously supported the oasis. It is now a UNESCO world heritage site in southwestern Turkmenistan. 38°14'58"N 54°37'22"E http://www.culture.gov.tm/Dehistan/Dehistan_eng.html ]
